Burke S. Lewis
Burke’s practice includes the acquisition, financing, land use permitting, development, leasing and disposition of commercial real estate. He has represented a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and individuals.Examples of Burke’s transactional experience include representing: a chemical company in the acquisition of land for the development of a plant; power companies in multiple transactions including the acquisition of permitted properties for the development of plants; a regional homebuilder in its sale to a national company and the day-to-day counseling of the merged homebuilding entities; family estates in the disposition of multiple hotels and other commercial properties; and a railroad in its preparation for the conveyance of seventy miles of right-of-way in a “rails to trails” program.
Burke’s land use experience has included re-zonings and other land use permitting in connection with commercial developments and telecommunication facilities, obtaining vested right determinations on behalf of a developer and assisting a Virginia locality with a comprehensive assessment of its zoning and subdivision ordinances in connection with overhauling the ordinances.
Prior to joining Kaplan Voekler Cunningham & Frank PLC, Burke practiced commercial real estate law with Davis, Graham & Stubbs, LLP in Denver and McGuireWoods, LLP in Richmond.
