Practice Experience
Chris’s practice focuses on finance, bankruptcy law, commercial real estate, corporate law and litigation. Chris’s experience has ranged from acting as in-house counsel, litigating on behalf of Fortune 250 companies and negotiating multi-million dollar real estate deals, to advising small business owners and individuals on corporate development, credit counseling and wealth management.

Chris is a founding member of the Firm, who, prior to returning to the Firm, served for a year as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Real Estate and Finance for a commercial real estate investment and property management company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. In this role, Chris was responsible for debt financing of real estate acquisitions, corporate mergers and acquisitions, real estate syndication through tenant in common and alternative structures, private securities offerings, litigation management, dispute resolution, negotiation of retail leases, collections management, advising on intellectual property matters and general corporate matters.

Before co-founding the Firm, Chris practiced law with the firm of Hirschler Fleischer, P.C., in Richmond, Virginia. At Hirschler Fleischer, he divided his time between the firm’s litigation and corporate sections and served as a member of their nationally recognized real estate syndication team. He handled a wide array of commercial and civil disputes within the litigation section, including bankruptcy and creditor’s rights. In his role with the corporate section of the firm, Chris advised and counseled clients on private securities offerings and tenant-in-common syndications, as well as rendered opinions for such transactions, totaling over $325 million.

Before joining Hirschler Fleischer, Chris had the honor of serving as the federal judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert G. Mayer, United States Bankruptcy Judge in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division. As a bankruptcy clerk in the famed “Rocket Docket,” Chris was privileged to work on such cases as: In re Computer Learning Centers, US Airways, Motient Corporation, Fas Mart Convenience Stores, and Orbital Imaging Corporation. Due to the jurisdictional reach of the Court and its proximity to the technological center of the Dulles Corridor, Chris was also privy to the wave of Dot.Com bankruptcies following the collapse of the technology bubble of the late 1990s.

Preceding his judicial clerkship, Chris worked with First North American National Bank (F.N.A.N.B.) in Richmond, Virginia. At the bank, Chris worked on class action law suits, helped to establish working relationships with outside legal vendors, conferred with bank counsel on a multitude of matters, and pursued the bank’s rights as a creditor.

Chris has practiced before the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia
